The principal of Temple Christian Academy is Dr. Darren Smith. Dr. Smith holds a B.A. degree from the University of South Alabama, M.A. and Ed.D. degrees from Pensacola Christian College, and Advanced, Professional certification in Educational Administration from the American Association of Christian Schools. He currently serves on the Board of Reference for Pensacola Christian College.   Dr. Smith has served as the school's principal for the past nine years.

A Message from the Principal

Welcome to our Web Site. Thank you for taking the time to review the information about our school contained herein.

Few decisions are as important to parents as the choice of a school for their children. It is there that ideas will impact them, teachers will impress them, and peers will influence them. They will receive the training and educational foundation that will impact them for the rest of their lives. They will be changed by their school experience - for better or for worse.

At Temple Christian Academy, we strive to provide our students with the best academic program possible. Using the nationally acclaimed A Beka Book phonics-based reading program, we have the most advanced kindergarten program for 4 and 5 year olds in the Atmore community. Upon completion of our kindergarten program, our students are able to read and write (in cursive!). This program provides a solid academic foundation that allows our students to excel as they enter our elementary program. As a result, our elementary students on average routinely score 1 to 1 1/2 years above the national average on standardized tests. In addition, our smaller classroom setting allows for more one-on-one attention, which is better in meeting the needs of the individual student. These elements combine to create an educational program that can truly be characterized as "Academic Excellence."

Many schools may educate well. Many may do in a structured and disciplined environment. In addition to academics and discipline; however, a successful Christian school must offer instruction in a context that is consistent with the teachings of the Bible, where God is honored and where Biblical principles are taught and modeled by the staff and faculty. Over the years many Christian schools have compromised Biblical standards for convenience and as a result have lost their Christian distinctiveness. Consequently, they have developed into ministries that are Christian in name only or have closed their doors altogether. At TCA, we have determined to remain faithful to the principles and standards of God's Word, so that we will be recognized as a school "that is Distinctly Christian."
